I'm working on my brother's 95 A6 quattro, the car will not start when it's cold. I took the throttle body off and cleaned the EGR port because it was giving an EGR code. The car still will not start in the cold, it turns over then shuts right down. Is there any common problems or easy tests to find out what's causing this. It has gotten worse, before if you started the car then held the gas down for a little bit it would continue to run, last time i tried that didn't work.. Thanks guys

I'd check for vacuum leaks and quality of spark plugs

Classic symptoms of a vaccum leak, i had the same problem.

The spark plugs are only a few thousands miles old.. I did find one possible vacuum leak when cleaning the egr port, but i fixed it. I will look over the lines again... thanks

Check the coolant temp sensor and circuit for the ECU.
