Default future plans...

now that i have the ball rolling on my UrQ project, its time to think of what can be done to improve the performance of the car. the first few things i want to concentrate on are the drivetrain, brakes and suspension. how much do you guys trust the factory drivetrain with a built motor? say somewhere around the 250-300 hp mark.

i was told that wit h minor mods to the caliper brackets, brakes off a Porsche 966 will fit on the coupe gt's. can anybody confirm this?

I am also having a couple custom strut tower braces made to fit the car.

any other basic upgrades that i should focus on to even the all around performance of the car?

thanks!

Eric

The drive train was designed to go romping through the woods with 500 hp under the hood.

Default coilovers, rear bar, replace all bushings and mounts with either urethane or 034 hi perf. mounts...

stock suspension is WAAAAY too soft for the performance of that car.
Hi perfomance mounts and bushings will REALLY tighten up the feel and hadling of the car!

Default So you talking about the UrQ or a CGT?

or a quattro coupe (non-flared UrQ)?

The drivetrain in these cars is pretty bullet proof. You really have to abuse them to make 'em break, so I'd say a 300hp car will do nothing harmful to the drivetrain.

As for brakes, on the UrQ you can bolt on B5 A4 brakes. On our UrQ, we bolted on stock A4 calipers w/ regular A4 rotors. You can also upgrade to A8 (D2) rotors, but need to pick up TT caliper carriers. Also, any porsche BBK that fits an A4 will fit an UrQ. As for the rear brakes, you can bolt on V8/200 20vt rear brakes w/ no issue. If you have a pre-'85 you'll need to change your parking brake cables to make them work properly, though a ghetto rig is an option (ask me how I know this :P).

I got more suggestions, but don't want to overload you. If you got more questions, fire away.

hope this helps.

Default CGT vs UrQ:

this is a CGT:

<img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_4dSd8RzzFyI/STxz_Zr59aI/AAAAAAAAAdY/Hckh3BG2KMk/s800/_C060689.jpg">

They are front wheel drive, non turbo, and have no flares.

This is an UrQ:

<img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_4dSd8RzzFyI/SHLrby61YVI/AAAAAAAAAIw/BL7ptoMxEXU/s800/_7070455.JPG">

They have quattro, turbo motor, and flares.

As for the ghetto rig... lol. we basically made the UrQ parking brake cables "work." Involved bending a #10 screw to a 90* angle and kinda looping it all together, and putting a nut on it to hold everything together. Never took a pic, but it works, though the lever is at the top of its range of motion. I wouldn't rely on it to stop the car while moving, but it will hold the car still on a slight grade, which is all we needed to get the car to pass state inspection. We will put the proper cables on when we restore the car down the road.

Default lol... what Tom said... the SQ is the next step above the UrQ!

shortened wheel base, increased rake on the windshield, 20vt motor stock, pimped interior pieces, and I'm sure the list goes on. Oh, and wider flares and bigger wheels/tires. I'm not all up to date with the nitty gritty differences, but the price alone will speak for itself. Great shaped UrQ will fetch ya $15-$20k. A SQ is upwards of 80k+
