Default 91 CQ seems very slow off the line! I have owned this car for 7 years

and might be spoiled by my new TDI Jetta Sport Wagon and 3 20V Turbo cars however it really seems to be a total dog pulling into an intersection (Almost dangerously sluggish). Top end seems about normal? Low end seems very poor. I had distrubutor problems (NO start) for past year and we just figured out that the distrubuer needed to be moved slightly off center for spark. The Timing belt is in the normal position. Could this sluggish low end be fuel injectors or something else I could check out?

I would give her a full fresh tune-up with new wires, F6-DTC spark plugs, Dist cap, rotor, fuel filter, o2 sensor, clean the every lovin' hell out of the ISV valve and go from there. If it still feels sluggish buy the 034 injector upgrade kit and you should be good. Good luck!

Most of the tune items have been done in the past year. The car has 142K on it. Do you highly suggest the injectors? Some folks say that they original ones should still be ok however I know that failures are common? Would I know by driving the car that I had leaky injectors or are my low power symptoms what one might experience.

After 20 years, the injectors on these cars cannot be relied upon.

Hey Hey...Duncan...Greg here how's it goin man? Long time since I've seen you on here. Hope Christmas was good to ya. And yes you are right...these Hitachi injectors are unreliable after 20 years. Like I said get the 034 injector upgrade kit...you won't be disappointed.

Going well Greg - Christmas was good. I actually picked up another coupe. I'll throw some pictures up in a bit along with a bit of back story. Hope all is well with you man.

Totally recommend the 034 EFi injector kit. I went from spastic misses and terrible acceleration to basically a new engine. I did the injectors, new factory plugs and an oil service at the same time. Injectors are 90% of excellent results.

sorry for the threadjack, but my cq occasionally hesitates when i hit the accelerator. it eventually 'wakes up' and gets up and goes.

i'm assuming leaky injectors would be the culprit, correct?

Could very well be... Is your car hard to start? Does it smoke a little when you first start it? Leaky injectors will drip raw fuel into the cylinder when the car is off.
