A/C not turning off. Could it be something other than the switch or relay?

A/C not turning off. Could it be something other than the switch or relay?
B3 90Q with manual climate control.
This seems to be turning into a pain. The temporary solution to the problem was pulling the a/c clutch relay under the dash. I picked up a spare one, and swapped it in, but the problem remained.
The a/c stays on, no matter what the switch is saying (when you hit the on switch, the a/c light turns on, and the recirculating fan turns on. Turning it off kills the recirc fan and light but doesn't kill the compressor).
I also notice that the rad fan now comes on when the key is turned into the on position, something that it wasn't doing before. Not even sure it's turning off at all to be honest. This is with the relay out as well.
Any thoughts? Bad switch? Something else I may not be thinking of?

Have you got a Bentlely Manual? You will need it for the wiring schematics of the AC.
Otherwise anything I say or anybody suggests will be gibberish to you. The AC wiring on Audis has a myriad of redundancies you are running into. And you are spending money needlessly.
It's obvious the compressor is getting an "On" command from somewhere. The Cooling fan is also getting a command to run. Both work in concert with each other. This where the Bentley comes into the picture. You can follow the wiring schematic and see where all the problems are starting.

Oh well...*edit*
...I have the old (eBahn 1.x) and only B3 CD-based Bentley but it only runs on 98/ME/2k or XP pre-SP1. (And pre-IE 6.something).
Unfortunately I don't have a PC to bring it up on...sorry sir!
Someone here suggested using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 - which I'm playing with right now...looks like there's hope to run the older Bentley under it.
