Cabriolet Differences

Cabriolet Differences
Boy, it's been years since I posted . . . but I have a question: We're thinking of adding a Cabriolet to the "stable", and the Audi 90 Cab seems to fill the bill.
Are there any "peculiarities" to the Audi Cab? We're plenty familiar with the 2.8L 12v motor from our 100S. I trust the Cabriolet does not have any funky items like the old hydraulic brake booster of the mid-80s 5000TQ or the "inboard" brakes of the V8?
Does anyone have any information on body "shake", overall top tightness, typical maladies on the parts unique to the convertible?
Thanks in advance!

I bought a 94 cab last year
black with 35K miles on (at the time). When we bought it the seller fixed a very slow operating top ( a hydraulic leak). We have now got 49K on it and no probs at all so far.
Car has "normal" brakes. Does shake a bit - but only like any convertable. Top is nice and tight, inside is comfortable , not too bad in the back even.
I think it is still a great looking car, and best of all you dont see them on every street corner.
A bit on the slow side.

Re: Cabriolet Differences
I bought a '97 Cabriolet last Oct. and really like the car. It is quiet for a convertible with top up. Brakes are average. I run in summer 205/55 tires on 16.5 Ronal wheels and use stock wheels for winter. A lot of BMW's out there but not many Audi Cabs.

That "shake" part is the main reason we better drive one, eh? ;-)
Seriously, the 944S2 and 968 (as well as the 911 line of cabs) is *very* tight, and the BMW 328i we test drove also exhibited very , very little cowl shake. Will we be disappointed when we drive the Audi? ;-0 We rarely have time to get to the dealers to try one, but will do so this weekend if at all possible.
One more thing - looking through the data for all years, it appears that the power top is standard '94 through '96, then became optional for the last two years. And the "CFC-free" AC was introduced in '96. Also, for some odd reason the mileage claim drops to 24 mpg in '97 from 26 in '96, yet I see no difference in the power and torque figures. It's the same motor all along, though, isn't it? I mean, there were no cam timing changes or such . . .
Yes, they are definitely scarcer than the BMWs - and don't carry the "instant yuppie" image. ;-)
Thanks again!

Love my '96 Cabrio
Oliver - I purchased my Cabriolet in October of last year with 35,000 miles on it - the only "quirk" that my mechanic says they are known for is the ignition switch (where the key turns) can crack inside and the key will "stick" forward upon starting car. I test drove before buying this the following convertibles: the Saab 900 turbo, Saab 93, BMW 3 series, BMW Z-3, Nissan 300Z, Porsche Boxter, Toyota MR2 Spyder, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and the Honda S2000. For the price, the Audi Cabriolet was hard to beat - Classic styling, very nice top end cruising, comforatable with about the most legroom of all and a fabulous all weather push of a button top. I am really glad that I bought the Cab - a real head turner in Pearl White with a blue top and Blue leather interior. The only Mods I have made and are very happy with is the K&N filter of course, switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 15-50,the K&N oil filter (model HP-3001- K&N does not list it but it fits the vehicle) and the Bosch Platinum 4+ plugs. I will keep this until the doors fall off - also - this sounds corny, but E-bay always has 2 or 3 for auction at a good price. Good luck shopping!!
