chassis # is AKA the VIN,
... which is in your dash in front of the steering wheel, visible (usually, unless you have a cheap aftermarket windshield without one) through the little cutout at the bottom.
It's also on the sticker in the driver's door jamb, among other places. should start with WAU................
try blauparts, autohausaz. Are the axles themselves going bad, or just the rubber boots? If it's the boot that's an easy, and much less expensive proposition to take care of.

looks like you can get the cv joint (and boot) for $99 or $116, pending you find your VIN
you need to find your VIN, it is located in the lower drivers side windshield AND inside the drivers side door. Read the last 6 numbers on the VIN, that tells you your build date, it looks like the build date's were seperated on 4/88. (same as my 90Q) The build date is also located inside the drivers door jam.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=eke32q45vzz0m02mkwi04zbw&make id=800002@Audi&modelid=1008155@80%20&year= 1988&cid=17@Drivetrain%20Parts&gid=2293@CV %20Joint%20%26%20Boot%20Kit">http://www.autohausaz
