Default Front Plate Mounts

Just picked up a new S5 and I was wondering if anybody has successfully been able to remove these two clips that are inserted into the grill for attaching a front license plate

I don’t want them there

Search the S4 or maybe the A4 forum. Someone posted details there. Basically, there is a Torx (IIRC a T-25) screw accessible from behind the grill that has to be removed. I removed mine on my Allroad(they are different), but haven't got around to removing them on my S4 yet. I found 2, black, 6mm screws that fit - al least it camos the silver threads!

Thanks for the response. I e found a few related threads after going to some other sections of the forums. For right now I’m gonna go with some black screws as well.

Appreciate it .

I think those should just push out, I believe they are just held in by clips or something?

I will say I like how the 2023 grilles are now all gloss black, on my 2022 it's all matte black, and just the border and those little tabs on each hexagon are gloss black. it's not bad but i like it all gloss, and mainly the gloss looks better on that filler plate area IMO, might have to get mine's done like this.

is it just a cost savings thing why they no longer make a plate mount, I wish I had known before the dealer screwed the plate into the bottom mount about the amazon bracket someone used but at least they only screwed into the bottom of mine and not the top

that's an S4 grille though, the mounts are different. you can see in OP's pic on the S5, the brackets are smaller and the hexagon shape. you can stick your finger behind there and feel it, there shouldn't be any screws, and iirc i've seen it before on the forums, it's held in by clips and should pop out.

You are correct. I made the mistake of assuming the S4 & S5 were the same. Obviously, they are not. Thanks for posting.
