When I picked it up, it had 8 miles on it. Audi calls for a break-in period that most dealers ignore and, as you point out most test drivers ignore. My car is broken in with the following result:

The above is on a 17 mile trip with some stop & go driving behind a school bus. I have found that the mileage continues to improve up to about 10K miles; I only have about 3K at this point. Stick with your plan.
