Default 90K service question ...

My dealer sent me a 90K service reminder for my 2001 2.7t tip. In addition to the standard oil change, door lube, and tire rotation, they want to do an engine flush. Are their any pros and cons to do this. They like to describe this as angioplasty for the engine- kinda sounds like snake oil to me. Thanks.

Default save it for the timing belt job.

New coolant is done anyway when you do the timing belt. (thermostat too) Now to 105K is the suggested Audi spec. SOme do it far earlier.

A dealer is costly.. most indy's at 1000-1500.00 including parts.

Default Curious, have you been using synthetic oil all along? I have been and have never been told to do

this. FYI, it's time for a new timing belt, if you haven't done this yet.

Default Phil Long likes to offer engine oil flush. I always decline. You should too, if you have been

always using synthetic oil.

Default Regular oil is the biggest culprit in turbo failure

That's what Dan at Phil Long told me. The regular oil changes viscosity under high temerpatures and can plug circulation in the turbos. Sounds plausible to me.
I don't, however, think an engine flush will get rid of any oil residue in the turbos though.

Default I've used syn oils since I've had it for about 20K miles ...

I believe previous owner used syn as well. I replaced the timing belt at 75K after reading everything in this group.

Default If you've used synthetic and changed it regularly, I bet the inside of the engine is spotless.

Dirty oil and sludge was a problem a long time ago before full-flow oil filters and good quality oil. When I tore down the 40,000 mile engine in my Mustang with 5 years of track sessions on it, there was still cross-hatching on the cylinder walls and every part was clean and shiny like new. Turbo heat may affect this a little bit, but good oil won't make sludge like it used to.

Save your money and don't let them scare you into doing it. It's pure profit.
