Default Flashing check engine light

Today, with my wife driving, the MIL light started to flash. Once I got to the car, it was still flashing whenever started up. The engine runs roughly as well. Exhaust seems smellier...unburned gas, maybe?

This is an early 2003 allroad 2.7T. Does anyone think this is a failed coil pack? Calling the dealer first thing on Monday AM. The dealership is 50 miles away...drive it or have it flatbedded? Thoughts.

See what the dealer says! I would flatbed if unsure!

Default If coil pack, can anyone answer these questions...

1) how long should I reasonably expect the car to be out of service?
2) will Audi supply me with a loaner?
3) will Audi pay for transporting the car to the dealership?

thanks

The 1.8t's had coilpack problems, I've not heard of any significant number of 2.7t coilpack problems

Default Flatbed!

I have had check engine light issues and local dealer (Carlsen Audi) said it's okay to drive UNLESS IT IS FLASHING! If you have AAA, they should cover the tow.

Could end up trashing it more if you have to drive 50 miles. Don't know what coil pack symptoms are.

Default I have been through it...1.8T owner here!

1. the fix can be done in as little as an hour. they are getting very good these days and are now equipped with an updated coil "J" series. but don't be surprised if they ask you to leave the car for a day.

2. The dealer should give you a loaner if you show them the importance of it. But that really depends on the dealer. I was lucky enough to get loaners both times that were better than most A4 owners.

3. Call Audi Roadside Assistance. all is payed for.

Default Resolution of my problem

I did call Audi Roadside, who arranged a flatbed to the dealer in Bangor ME. They found that 2 coil packs had failed, replaced ALL of them (even those that had not yet failed) and returned to the car to me in less than 24 hours. Kudos to Darling's Audi in Bangor and a new customer-centric attitude at AoA.
