Default okay, so Mikkel's VAG COM scan yesterday yielded "excessive comm errrors"

...so the VAG COM was unable to connect to the control module. Thoughts from the allroad braintrust??? Fried module? Any way to "reset" the module by disconnecting the wiring harness and reconnecting?

Control module is an expensive part (retail over $600, with Carson at Riverside low $500's).

original thread

Default I don't recall specifics, but there may be a post or 2 about rebuilt modules.......

plus with more allroaders opting for a coil and spring conversion, a few on the board may donate or sell theirs.

Default Bought mine over a year ago and it wasn't that much...I was told they were all

rebuilt, but maybe that was just at that time...I think that is your only option with these symptoms...H one thing you could try just to make sure as we did is to disconnect the suspension ECU (it is in the rear driver compartment and is the furthest of the three modules that is connected together) and unplug it and let it sit for about 24 hours....when you plug it in if it is good at all you should get some communication...then you most likely will need to do the adaptation (it is like the 402 and I used the directions on here to tell the dealers' tech how to do it....good luck...I got mine at genuineaudiparts.com but Carson usually is about the same so they may have come up....you can always beg for one here first.

Default Re: Bought mine over a year ago and it wasn't that much...I was told they were all

Thanks! I will see if the unpluging/repluging makes any difference first.

Any chance anyone has a picture or a diagram of what I am looking for and how to get to it? I ordered the Bentley Manual today - will there be an illustration in there?

Why the 24 hour disconnect? Does the ECU have a battery backup or similar? Will overnight do it or is the 24 hour critical?

If anyone has a spare suspension ECU that they are willing to part with please let me know. Thanks!

/Mikkel

Default Mikkel, the control module is the thing we were looking at in the rear compartment...

...removal of the control module requires removal of the side trim panel (the whole piece, not jsut the access door), but unplugging the harness connectors can be done through the access panels.

If you want, I can swing by and we can disconnect them. I think it will require the 24-hour period. Overnight will not do.

Default Was that message a general VAG COM message or 'attached' to the suspension module?

I'm just checking to make sure your VAG COM cable, laptop and software are fine.

Default Looks like an issue with the control moule. Did you try unplugging the module?

and then plugging back in? I wonder if you might need to leave it unplugged for a good 10 minutes? not sure how that module reacts after power is removed. Keep us posted.

No not yet... I am still driving the car (for the most part it has no problems) so I am not unpluging anything until the weekend when I have a little time to recover if something doesn't sit well after I re-plug.

I am still missing a clear diagram or picture of what module exactly I need to unplug and how to get to it. I hope my Bentley Manual arrives tomorrow.

I will keep you posted as I learn more.
