Please help me with my battle with Audi: the dreaded 65mph shudder!!!

Default Please help me with my battle with Audi: the dreaded 65mph shudder!!!

Here is the problem: Shudder between 60-75mph. Shudder transmits right down the axis of the car. No steering wheel vibration. If I shift into 4th, the shudder goes away at that speed. Audi has reblanced the driveshaft (and i think a half-shaft) and has rebalanced the tires, and has replaced rotors. But shudder persists. I want new TCM, but my service manager insists that the software has been updated for all late 2002 and 2003. Mine is a 2003. What can I do? Thanks to all

Default Keep going back

I did with a GM prod, with a ABS problem. When they said No More For You! I turned it in to a safty issue. Letter from lawer friend letting them know that if involved accident, ABS problem noted (like the kid ran out in front of me, I hit the brakes and nothing ABS mod went in to full ice mode YOU GM just bought the kid) car was taken back with in the month. Im just starting with the shuder on my allroad, 65 to 70 will come up esp if in a long right turn! Now that I have new tire,good balance. Their turn to look at the steering rack.

Default This needs a dynamic test........

....if the dealer does not have the facilities, which I doubt he has, they should refer you to someone who has a rolling road suitable for a 4wd vehicle.
I visited the Range Rover factory in Solihull, England and watched them testing each vehicle as it came off the assembly line on a rolling road.
It was incredible the data this test was capable of throwing out.
If there's anything wrong in the drive train, this thing catches it, from bearings to brakes to out of balance components.
I'm sure the allroads are tested using something like this at Neckarsulm.

Not a driveshaft or wheel prob if it goes away by changing gears--sounds like trans or engine

Default my mistake, most apparent shudder at 60mph, put it in neutral and its still there (more)

I went on an extensive drive just to isolate the problem. switching it into fourth gear does not elliminate the shudder but only masks it due to other noise/vibration/harshness associated with a lower gear/more rpm's. At 60mph, the shudder is most obvious, at which time i switched to neutral and its still there. Hopefully that eliminates the engine and drivetrain. Does that isolate it to axle or wheel/tire? thanks

Likely not this, but worth getting the dealer to check the tire for uneven wear, especially if they are the originals. Mine showed up between 50 and 80 mph, and disappeared completely with new tires.
