Syncro failure on '03 ar?
I've been noticing more and more grinds and clunks into first lately when just rolling forward at no speed. At first I just thought I didn't have the clutch in all the way, but now I know that's not the case. Additionally, the "feel" of the clutch is a bit odd lately - almost as if it has a sticking point mid-way in travel. Has anyone else had these problems w/the 6 speeds?

Re: To get into first, you either need to slow way down, or rev match (in neutral).
In my situation, I am just rolling forward after stopping at a stop sign, for instance. I am going no more than 1-2 mph. I've never driven a syncro transmission that has had this problem or that I have to rev match and I've had my share of crash box VWs, Saab 96 2 strokes, Jags and Triumphs w/o synchro also.

Your clutch might not be disengaging fully?
If you are stopped on flat ground, car in 1st, clutch pedal depressed fully - does reving the engine cause the car to creep?
My other car has a "performance" clutch that doesn't fully disengage (!?), and the above action will cause creep - Getting into gears is a bit trickier as a result, with symptoms similar to what you've described when things don't line up perfectly.

Only had my AR for two weeks, so don't know much about it yet......but....
most likely has an hydraulic clutch.....which means that when you press the clutch pedal you are pushing (compressing) fluid through one or more cylinders to actuate the clutch. If you have air in the system.....it will act funny and sometimes not dissengage the clutch all the way....check the owners manual (don't have mine in front of me)....see if it mentions anything about clutch fluid and where to fill (usually brake fluid). Also if one of the hydraulic cylinders is starting to go, it could be leaking air and/or not performing well.
Just something to check out......if it has a mechanical linkage.....the above it not valid, but there usually are adjustments to the mechanical clutch as well.

Im not sure about how audi builds clutch disk now but it
may have a rubber dampener that is comming apart and bit are in between the disk an pressure plate.
or could be a pilot shaft bearing starting so seze. I have had this happen on my old 4000 and a Porsche 911.

Yep happened to me at 5600 miles, took three trips to the dealer before they
acknowledged it. They replaced the clutch master to no avail. Then the replaced the presssure plate and slave cylinder. It's been fine since. S4 guys occasionaly have this problem too. It seems to be caused by the pressure plate coming out of adjustment. This is set when the pressure plate is made.
