Winter Tire talk... All new thread
I've seen a few of these threads already but I'm lazy so I want you all to chime in again...
While I'm gone please use this thread to discuss, recommend and compare various winter use tire models. Do this wonder tires work worth a damn in the dry? Give the good bad and ugly.

I will compile this for the FAQ.

As I said below <wink wink, just had to give you a little bit of a hard time> I just
ordered Hankook Ice Bear W300's in 225-55-R17 for my double spokes (yes they are my winter wheels, also summer, spring, fall...) so they better be alot better than the Kumho's that were recommended here before...I plan to just keep them on all the time...the way this car eats tires who would notice if they don't last as long as they should...that or but the Pole Positions that it came with on for next summer...they scare me though as they look like a race tire to me. My local guy couldn't get the Hankooks as they were all sold out at his supplier..got an amazing deal at discounttiresdirect.com for $414 for four with the warranty...they are doing 100 off until the 20th...my local guy will not charge me more than $20 a corner to put them on and he has a Hunter machine...seemed like a no brainer to me as I really had chewed through these last tires anyway...and the great part is that my husband thinks the last ones lasted two years <one>...

Re: The Nokian WRs have been a good tire, this will be the 4th winter on them
As I recall last winter they were starting to get a bit noisy but not bad. In cold temperatures they handle very well. As the temp warms, about 70, they will get a bit soft. I find them to be a very good bad weather tire.

for a coastal Cali boy heading to the Sierra, you can't beat the Nokian WR
I've had Dunlop M2's and Bridgestone LM-22's and Nokian WR's on various cars, but no two on the same car. All in a 55-series size, however. All are good in the snow, but the Nokians are waaaay better on a warm freeway. The others turn to mush, as their rubber is winter-specific and they are H-rated, versus V-rating for th WR's in the allroad stock size. Nokian lays claim to the WR being the only Severe Duty tested tire made of all-season rubber, and that matches my impressions. They handle fine (nothing inspiring) on the 150 miles of warm freeway that I drive to get to chain control, then they grip like mad in the snow. Works for me.
