You've gotta have V1 in AR .... now i swear by it ...
When I bought my AR ... I was always going a 100mph ... A month ago I had a speeding ticket ... been travelling during Thanskgiving and yesterday to VA (where radar dectectors are illegal) ... and V1 saved my *** several times. In VA, I tested V1 to see if cops can detect V1 with their radar detector dectector ... V1 picked up at least 5 cop cars. 2 aimed directly ... and they didn't seem to see that I was operating a radar detector ... V1 really rules! Now I feel good speedin up with the AR

V1 is my favorite ar addition. I would not be without it. Just yesterday I'm taking my usual route to work, a winding two lane road through the country. Doing about 60 on a road posted way to slow (40mph) and following a guy in a BMW. The V1 lights up and says Ka ahead... I back off and flash my brights and the BMW up ahead. He ignored it and swung in to the next corner...where predictably there is one of California's finest waiting just around the bend.
CHP officer swings around behind me (now doing 40mph) and then passes. Moments later he has the BMW off to the side. Nailed!
I can't even begin to count the number of times this thing has saved me a ticket. Don't leave home without it.
Also, if you search the forum you will find several posts on how to install the V1 in your ar and run all the wiring concealed.

The V1 is also the most economical...
I bought one of the very first ones out that is what nearly ten years ago? I used it continuously until last spring (still works great)when I finally bought a new one to do a hard wire installation in the allroad as my ten year old V1 was looking a little scruffy. I can't tell you how many times it has saved me from getting a ticket. The only goofy thing is the laser warning which goes off for those LED brake lights and some neon signs.

Anyone come up with a clever way to add the remote
display? I bought the remote display when I got my V1 but have not used it because I can't find a place to mount it where it is:
1) better positioned than the V1 unit which on my car is driver's side middle between the rearview mirror and the roof
2) not blocking and instruments
Any suggestions?

Check out http://www.tripcomp.com/faq.html
they seem to be working on a product that displays the V1 information on the Audi TripComp - this was from a previous post on this forum

I almost lost my V1 in Virginia. Semi-interesting story inside.
This was several years ago in a previous car, but the story applies. The V1 is indeed electronically invisible to radar detector detectors, but I almost lost my V1 in Virginia anyway. I was speeding a little on the beltway at night (like everyone else) and I get an instantly strong K band warning. Reflexes make me go to the brake as my eyes check the V1 for direction indicator. Oh, **** - from behind.
I see the cop's light bar fire up and he is working his way over to get me. I immediately stash the V1 before he is close enough to see me and I pull to the shoulder.
When the cop approaches the car he bends down to look at the visor and the first thing out of his mouth is "where is the radar detector?"
He said he pulled me over not because of my speed, but because he knew I reacted to his instant on radar. He explained that he was authorized to take my radar detector (equal to $400 fine?!?) and write me a ticket as well. Luckily he cut me a break because I was in military uniform and the car and my driver's license were all from Maryland.
Just a story to note for your next blast through Virginia.

I have the remote display attached to the top of the steering column...
It doesn't block anything from there (although if you have a tip it may block the gear indicator). It is perfect line of sight from there. The detector is placed on the passenger side behind the rear view mirror with just the sensors protruding out. It is less visible from the front as it blends with the mirror. If you need a low profile mount, toy guy on the S4 forum makes a pretty nice setup.

Have you seen tripcomp.com?
They manufacture something they call "Display Enhancement Interface" which allows you to view your V1 through your trip computer. Pretty cool, although I haven't seen it in person.
