yupper got the thing open. WD40'd the heck out of the lock and got that working too. All is well. Thanks for input and apologize for poor response time on my part.
Some old timers know me. Out of S-car list for about 5 yrs and back now that I bought my son a 1993 S4.

I am having same problem with trunk not opening with key or remote.
Tried the trunk release button, and now at least, I can hear some gear trying to move in lock area when I tried and open with remote.
Any other ideas? And will WD40 into lock help?
Also, is this more of a nuisance, or something that could damage my electrical systems if I don't get it fixed right away?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

the lock cylinder may have turned slightly!
I had the same problem with a V8 Quattro and my 93 S4. If you open the trunk with the key you can turn the cylinder and then it no longer lines up with the unlock rod. What you have to do is insert a straight screwdriver into the cylinder and turn it until it lines up again. It does not take much turning to get it lined up. A little trial and error.
