Default HELP! Bass in the symphony front door speakers sucks....

I don't even listen to music with heavy bass...mostly rock and metal. I knew ahead of time that people didn't like the system, but I figured I'd live with it for a while and then do some aftermarket work. I didn't expect it to suck so much though. I'm thinking of an aplifier with some cambridge soundworks, or other nicer speakers. I don't need anything unbelievable. just something I can turn up a little without worrying about dropping the bass on my EQ. Any suggestions for a relatively simple/inexpensive upgrade...@$300-$500? Thanks in advance.

Default I'll never understand why oem radio designers will NEVER get the concept of crossover points!

the problem is, they try to send full range signals to all speakers... even those dinky little 4" drivers in the doors. That's ASSANINE!

If they'd just get a clue and filter out the stuff below 60 hz to the front speakers, it would allow the system to play so much smoother at higher volume.

If you want to keep the stock speakers, just get an external amp with a high-pass crossover built in... and run cleaner power to them, with the low frequencies filtered out... you'll hear a big improvement just from that. Then if you want to upgrade from there, get a better set of speakers.

Default Short-term suggestion

Adjust the fader a little toward the back -- this will move most of the power toward the rear speakers and allow the front ones to work -- and then adjust the mid and treble higher than the bass -- to bring the soundstage back to the front; besides the rear speakers can hardly reproduce the higher frequencies.

Default Absolutely...

I'm running the stock speakers with a new amp and the quality and volume has gone up with high pass filter - problem is that they do not now go loud enough to keep up with the sub and so I may replace them with 5.1/4 inch speakers - still not ideal because you really need some bass in the front of the car but in practical terms Siberian has got it spot on - a simple filter would do the trick to stop those 4inch cones flapping - can buy or make these for next to nothing - cheap option..

Default You're welcome; if only they were set that way from the factory, there'd be a lot less complaints

Of course, I've still got $1500 worth of stuff sitting in the garage that's waiting for another $500-$1000 of new stuff to go into my S4 with. Problem is that the S4's SOOOO fun to drive, I could often care less about the stereo, so I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
