Default how often is too often to wash a car?

i have heard that washing a car more than once a week is bad (not a good idea to touch the car that much, clear coat is soft). While on the other hand i heard that it is bad for a car to have went through a rain and let the car sit in the sun. what do i do?

Default If you're careful, you shouldn't scratch the car, however...

any type of car wash will strip some of your wax. The better the wash, the less it strips, but it will stip some. So, excess washing = extra waxing. Other than that, it's no problem.

This is really a psychological issue and not a technical one.

If it starts to interfere with normal life, you may have a problem

Default Agreed...more washing ultimately means more waxing, but otherwise no issue.

I think one of the reasons why I see wax protection lasting throughout the winter is that I end up doing relatively few washes in the cold weather. I do slosh on water to rinse off road salt and the like, but I end up doing actual washes probably half as much as I do in warm weather.

Default I don't agree entirely. If you have dirt on your car and you wash it, you will scratch it.

But they are tiny microscopic scratches unless you are using a cheap-*** sponge or wash mitt.

I just can't see how even with lubrication (soap) you can apply friction (washing with a mitt) to a surface (paint) and not cause scratches.

That being said, I don't think you will really notice it on certain colors ever, and on darker colors for quite some time. At which point they can be buffed out.

What color? I try to allow at least 5 days between my washings.
