wetsanded too deep, I now have a halo shadow ring, but still have the clearcoat luster..
anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of a shadowed ring on my Brilliant black. I wetsanded an area using 1000, 1500, 2000...then 3M rubbing compound...followed by Menzerna IP & FP. I def sanded deeper than I should of. Any other tips before I give up? TIA.

as long as you used a really high grit to wet sand, you should be fine. all you need to do is...
just use the proper polishing/buffing compound followed by some good wax. i forgot exactly what stuff i used but it was made by 3M IIRC.

Uh,oh...
Unfortunately you can't go backwards.
1000grit is pretty coarse to start. And even when finishing with 2000 you shouldn't have to use the rubbing compound also. Too heavy cutting.
Have you removed all the scratches from the sanding?
Thinking positive, I am hoping that the difference you see is because you limited all your sanding and buffing to a small area and the difference in finish you produced is more niticeable because it's so isolated. You could try to feather our your buffing much further to relieve this difference.
Worst case, it sounds like you did go through the clearcoat. This, naturally, is permanent. When this happens it usually does cause a distinctive "spot" or "halo". (Don't ask me how I know.)
I wish I could see it.

yea looks like i need to repaint =/ ARGH....damn stupidity of me...lol...thanks for the response..
Looks like i wasn't a pro at wetsanding at all. LOL. I can only look back at the situation and laugh. On the bright side, I had 2 chips on that pass door already. Lesson learned.

It sucks but don't beat yourself up.
It happens and it happens fast. No two cars/paint surfaces are the same. I've done it, too. I F**ked up the door panel on my 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro a few years ago. It was a pearl white paint that I loved. I polished too deep, it happen real fast. Expensive mistakes. Like you said, lesson learned.
But it can be repainted. Life is too short to stay bummed. Get it fixed ASAP and you'll feel better.

I've wetsanded panels /cars I've painted steeping up from 1000 ...
1000 is about as low as you want to go with for wetsanding cc. It may have not been the grit of the paper but the technique.
You say you did not sand through the cc to the base.
Options:
1) Wetsand the entire panel down so that the area in question now matches the rest of the panel. Compound/polish/wax afterwards.
2) Same as above but re-apply a layer or two of clear coat before compounding (using a Spray Gun not from cans). You can't "blend" clear coat like base coats so the panel has to be sanded first.
I would post your probelm on the site below. Lots of experience there.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index">AutoBodyStore.com</a></li></ul>
