Yes, you pay your tax in the state registered. Nice when your state has no sales tax, like

Alaska, Hawaii, New Hampshire and New Mexico have county/city taxes on many things, some of them including cars. But all have no state sales tax.
Montana and Oregon are totally cost free.

You pay where you purchase.
For example.
If you live in Cook county and purchase at my dealership.
It is 6.25% plus .75% for cook county still cheaper than 8.25%
If you live in Chicago and purchase from me.
It is 6.25% plus .75% cook plus 1.25% Chicago still cheaper than Chicago at 9%
If you live in Cook county and purchase at my dealership.
It is 6.25% plus .75% for cook county still cheaper than 8.25%
