Default Question For Moderators...

Here is a thread I started not too long ago:

https://forums.audiworld.com/other/msgs/1155864.phtml

Obviously one of the moderators deleted my replies which contained profanities and I completely understand that. What I don't understand is why the entire thread wasn't deleted. Why keep the thread "half-assed"? If you read the entire thread you'll see why I replied that way. I've been on Audiworld for less than a year and I can honestly say that this is one of the most unorganized online forums I have been to. I would expect much more from mature people who own luxury vehicles. I've been treated like an idiot and I've been called "noob" and I've been told to "shut the **** up" over simple questions. I find it offensive that people have treated me that way, and even more offensive when people are allowed to see that I am ridiculed in that manner. Obviously the smart thing to do would have been to delete the entire thread and send an email notice to me informing me that the thread was deleted.

I can see that other people's threads in the AWOT and A8 forum have been completed deleted, although I believe they don't warrant the deletion. However this thread obviously deserves to be deleted, as it shows other people's lack of respect for newer members of Audiworld. If people continue to treat new members like this, then you will never receive any new members.

I've been nothing but helpful with others with any experiences I've had in the automotive field. Whether it was my Audi, my Corvette, my bodyshop or my experience with General Motors of Canada. In return people treat me like trash because I'm a new member and I don't know exactly how things work in Audiworld.

I don't mean to sound like a bitch or a complainer but obviously moderators should take watch more carefully and warn people as to how to treat new members. Also, moderators should also look at all the perspectives prior to deleting a single post or an entire thread.

If you have any further questions please contact me via email:

Default Sarian, a quick search would have revealed the answer to your question

the off-topic forum has become the domain, for the most part, of people who have been on AW for a very long time and have gone to OT so they can still enjoy the community and not talk about cars anymore - or very much.

The OT crowd is a rough one - that's how it is. If you're looking for a gentler crowd you could try any other forum.
Much like inhabitants in a big city we get grumpy from seeing/hearing the same questions over and over - that's why we went to OT in the first place. In the future I would recommened using the search function before posting questions like that on the OT forum.

The replies that are still there are pretty mild in my experience. The MODS delete posts, not threads that violate the 'terms of use' (see bottom of page) they do not generally delete the whole thread, just the offending posts.

The moderators GENERALLY only step in when a post crosses the line into a personal attack or contains biggoted comments. Being teased and called a noob doesn't qualify so it is left alone.

I suggest growing a thicker skin or staying out of the off topic forum. In a year or 3 when the A6 forum has grown stale to you then off topic will make alot more sense to you.

Lastly, and really this speaks to the fact that you clearly haven't SEARCHED for an answer to your question OR consuleted the FAQ you can delete your own post quite simply; goto the original post and you'll see 'edit/delete' I'm sure you can figure it out from there.

Default Most of the time the "STFU Noob" replies are tongue-in-cheek.

You've got to hang out a bit to understand the twisted sense of humor of the OT forum. Just earn your stripes and learn not to take things personally. If that kind of humor or atmosphere doesn't appeal to you, then the OT forum is definitely not for you.

You should just be thankful you didn't reply to the "chew on pens" thread!

Replies usually aren't marked off-topic. Only parent posts.

Default I can relate to humour but I don't know whether these attacks are personal or not.

I'm only trying to be helpful and join into the crowd. Audiworld has the best source of Audi information on the Internet. This is my first Audi and I wouldn't have been able to modify my car or learn a lot about it without the help of other Audiworld members. It's just too bad some of these people attack me for no reason.

Default Thanks for clarifying that. I appreciate it. I think there should be a warning... (more)

...for newer members about the AWOT forum. I definitely would've avoided that forum if I knew that was how it really was.
