So to make it fit into an engine bay you would have to push it further back into the body which reduces occupant space to create engine bay space or elongates the chassis and makes proportions kinda odd.
Bad idea imo.
The thing with an odd number of cyls in an inline engine - is each cyl fires exactly the same number of degrees apart from the last - and each cyl. has it's own throw. (In a 4 or 6 cyl - pistons travel in pairs together - in a 6 cyl, 1 &6, 2 & 5, and 3&4 travel together. It's why a 4 cyl is so buzzy.)
An I7 would fire every 102.85714285714285714285714285714 (etc) degrees. An I5 every 144.





It does run very very smooth though.
