Need input on remote key problems
I have a problem with one of my remote keys, so I'm hoping you can provide some info before I take it back in.
One of the remote keys for my '05 S4 (3 years old this month, 11,700 miles) doesn't work again. Every time it has been in for regular service I've needed them to address problems with both of the remote keys. First, both were reprogrammed and worked ok for a few weeks. Then one went dead and they replaced the electronic fob, and it is still working. However, within a week the one that wasn't replaced stopped working. So...I took the car in for annual service this morning and after a quick check all they tell me is that I have a run down battery. I had the service advisor look back at the records which clearly indicate that the remotes have been a long-standing problem. I explained that the key stopped working again just after it was reprogrammed so I have to believe there's something more wrong with it than just the battery. Their resolution was to charge me $70+ to replace the battery. I'm willing to spend the $, but not when I know that's not the root cause of the problem. So now I am trying to gather some info and take it to a dealer who will at least try to figure out what's wrong.
Has anyone else had problems with the eletronic key fobs...is there a TSB on this...and can anyone offer specific suggestions I can give to the service advisor? I also need recommendations for a service advisor who will try to rectify the problem in the DC area....Criswell in Annapolis (where I got the S4) has proven incapable of resolving this.
Thanks in advance!
