Default corporate BS 101...

just got my performance review. overall, my former manager liked what i accomplished for 2007. just so i would not look too good to everyone else, she states that i need to improve my communication skills. i checked with all of my peers that i have worked with this year. they all disagreed with my manager. i asked my manager for proof. she could not produce any specifics. i turned things around and told her what her group's shortcomings were with specific examples. she gives me a blank stare and tells me that she has another meeting.

good thing i left. i guess as the saying goes...people tend to leave their jobs because of managers and not the work itself.

i tend to be the real world version of "Office Space" or Dilbert.

Default Its like a seatbelt ticket when you get caught speeding

sometimes they have to come up with something to "improve on" otherwise you come off as perfect, which um cough.. cough... your not lol.

And my policy is if you score aces on your PR i.e. 5 of 5's across the board, your in the wrong job and its time to move up and on.

I tend to think PR's are crap. You know the work your doing and so does your boss. Its like acknowledging a relationship on Valentines day alone.

Do you use the proper form of 'your' in work related memos?

Not sure. I'll let you know if it comes up during my next review.

Default a friend was at financial firm...

they were subjected to quarterly and year end reviews they called them PFP's iirc. long story short their group was performing better than any other group, and management purposely marked their reviews lower, only so it would look better... majority of them left.

Default What was the point of her putting you down like that?

If your track record was perfect, are you eligible for her position? Just wondering if there was an underlying reason behind it, because it sounds like she pulled that "lack of communication" out of her ***. I tend to think you're very good at communication, at least based on your performance on AW lol

Default Managers are always in bad position, they get kicked from the top and beaten up from the bottom

Unfortunately, they all will have to comply with HR given numbers and try to make up this BS to make the numbers/$$ match on the HR books.

It's all nonsense, deception and lies because they can't fit a square in a round hole...;-)
I gave this Manager job a long time ago because of this crap, if you try to be honest then the leadership will throw rocks at you. Instead of telling people the truth that the company doesn't have the finances to compensate as promised, they play these games.
