Brake Pads Revisited: What's good for '97 A4 1.8TQ?
It's time for the first pad change on my '97 1.8TQms with GIAC. I've had the car 18mo, and it's got OEM pads.
I want more stopping power, no noise (don't have any now...), and less dust, in that order.
Is there any pad that fits the bill?
I've heard that Pagids stop better, but more noise and no dust reduction, and that Mintex Red are quiet and produce less dust, but don't stop as well.
I've seen people here recommend many other pads, but the recommendations usually focus on only one of the 3 aspects:
Hawk
Rofren
EBC
Porterfield
...
Thanks.

not sure what you're getting at but as i've posted before, i like hawks...
i have them on both cars (A6 w/ BIRA S1 & 200 w/ stock G60's)
Dust: FAR less than stock. not dustless but pretty damn good... Audi stock pads are the WORST for dust.
Stopping: great, much better than stock, like to be warmed up a little though - you can feel them bite as they heat up. don't fade on the high side until what is highly unusual and somewhat scary levels for the street
Noise: little to none. but in re: to squeal, I firmly believe most of that is installation detail - turned rotors first, cleaned/greased pad slots, chamfered pad edges, careful application of anti-squeal goo...
