Default Car running again after $500...

...at least it wasn't a blown piston or valve.

The dealer did a compression and leakdown test on #2. Swapped plugs and coils with #3 and the problem didn't go away.

It ended up being the Spark Control Unit (part #4D0-905-351) which cost me $314.25 and $150 in labor for hunting down the problem and replacing the part. This is the little "heat sink" thing that is oblong in shape and snaps into the top of the airbox. I still can't believe this thing costs $314.25!

Anyway, the car runs great and I probably won't bring the car back to this dealer (Hoffman Audi) because I feel like I should have at least had somebody buy me dinner before they screwed me!

Default That's what that thing is!

I was looking at it last weekend. What happens with that when you go to one of those cone intake deals? Sorry it cost you so much but glad you're back on the road.

Default to make you feel just a bit better.....

average the cost into total miles driven:

500 / 120000 =.0042 cents per mile

not too bad.

Default Re: That's what that thing is!

It mounts onto the tubing of the intake via the stock rubber seal around it.

Default I hope the service guy isn't BSing you...

Bentley Docs shows the coil assemblies also contain their own drive transistor, which is driven directly by the ECU.
