Default Depends who you believe in, some tests show the cone filter has a slight power advantage over the...

panel ones but the expense will be the intake noise will be present on an open filter vs a closed factory box. Also, you will get engine compartment heat during stop and go driving so take that to account too.

i put a blitz micro filter in WOOHOO what a difference power and exhaust sound. then i built a heat shield/box with 2 layers of heat resistant stuff from JC whilty Works well. also have a 3" dryer ducking coming up from under the bumper to the bottom of the filter. that works well too especially on cool nights. think i am gonna modify it alittle. thanks alot john

beep-beep did a good test about tempatures from cone vs airbox. Read it here.

a drop in filter isn't going to make a difference one way or the other.

A cone will make a difference, you will get colder air, and their is more air inducted but its probably only going to be 5hp or so. Nothing large like a chip, etc

https://forums.audiworld.com/general/msgs/18511.phtml</a

Default that's not what his article says!

It doesn't say you get colder air with the cone filter, it says you get HOTTER air.

It also says you get more air because as we all know, the standard air filter is a huge restriction. That is, all of those who haven't actually investigated it "know" that.

Default did you read the article?

it says you get hotter air at idle...

but alot colder air when moving, and I really havn't run into many people who want more power when idle :P

And the airbox/filter is a restriction. If it wasn't, then removing the airfilter all together would not offer any more performance... but it does (along with the quick death of your engine.)

So, because of this, an airfilter that has more surface area will induct more air, that is colder, and offer more performance.

Like I _said_ its not going to give you 30-60hp like a chip, or a bigger turbo... but it does make a slight difference.

Default yes, I did. You didn't

Outside temp was 82F. Min air temp he measured in the engine bay was 85F. Read the article again, he never anywhere says a cone gets colder air than the standard intake. Nowhere does he even say it gets as cold air as the standard intake. At high speeds it is only 3 degrees higher than outside.

Read it again.

https://forums.audiworld.com/general/msgs/18511.phtml</a

Default he says here

He said stock filter was 82F

he said that the outside temp was 82F, and the temp he mesured _inside_ the cone was never _above_ 85F at crusing speeds.

he also says

"So the results of the tests are: during the driving (let us say above 30mph) cone filter would suck cool air, coming from the outside"

The fact of the mater is cone filters have been tested to show some improvement. It varies from car to car. On turbo cars its not gonna make much difference. Its really not worth arguing about.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/563.phtml</a

Varies between models! Some respond some do not. Your model Audi?

Default you are insane

What you say is true. However, he never says it went below 82. In fact he says that the cone picks up warmer air than the normal intake right in his article!

In my opinion, 30mph is also often a cruising speed.

He lists no temperature ADVANTAGES to a cone in this article. You try to say he does in this statement: 'A cone will make a difference, you will get colder air, and their is more air inducted but its probably only going to be 5hp or so. Nothing large like a chip, etc'.

Ergo, you are wrong.
