Every car I've ever had, had a reserve capacity, either the filler neck, or a gallon or two more than advertised...
Just like your gas gauge,
the dte (distance to empty-but I like your drive to empty!!) is an approximation.....

yes, the coding algorithm can take into account MANY variables, but it can never take in ALL variables (that's why they call them variables ) like the global warming scenario !

When I get a new car, the first tanks or so I watch how it tracks it...

like towing my 5th wheel with my 250 diesel, It got down to 35 mte !!!
when I found a station, I filled up and found I had 6 gallons left, which would have gotten me much further than 35 miles.... but was glad it was conservative

(didn't know I was in the boonies until it was too late - pictures of pushing 23k lbs in my head and all )
