Default High Mileage Count

I thought it would be fun/informative to give out mileage and any issues you might of had along the way. There are always threads about reliablity and oil burning here, but this might be a good thread to lay it out as it is.

Of course mine isn't a good place to start a high mileage thread but here is mine so far. 2013 2.0T - owned 6 months now, I have 4,500 miles on it. So far the Q has been a dream, no issues to report or any rattles. In that time it has burned about a half quart of oil, which to me given the design of this engine is completely acceptable so if anyone wants to consider that a problem, be my guest. I wanted to mention the oil due to the fact that a lot people/perspective buyers are very sensitive to this.

The mystery is why some of these engines burn oil and some don't. One would expect it to be pretty consistent between units of the same engine model, but there's a lot of variation. This applies to both the 2.0T and the 3.0T engines. Seems like issues with manufacturing tolerances.

Or driving habits, I believe (only a non-mechanic opinion granted) but has to do with the PCV, and burning goes up when spending a lot of time idling and in stop and go traffic and also people who coast a lot from high speeds down to stop or very slow. This is a lot of my commuting daily which is what I think is the cause to burn a half a quart over 4k. Of course I could be completely wrong in my assumption but there seems to be a lot of evidence that supports oil vapor escaping through the pcv and burning in the engine.

Is that measured with the dipstick or the MMI gauge? I haven't measured my oil in a while, but the last time I measured was for a 7000 mile interval I burned 0.25 quarts of oil. This was measured using the MMI gauge (25% of the gauge) on a 2012 2.0T

The MMI gauge - by the rules - warm engine shut off for 2 min. and then check on level ground.

Mine is a 2013 2.0T delivered in March. I'm up to approximately 9500 miles and have just started tracking an issue with a high pitch whine that appears to be coming from the sunroof when reaching speeds of 60-65+ mph on the highway. It started around 8800 miles. I have not taken it in yet to have it checked out. I've been trying to determine what is causing the sound, but it is quite distracting and can be heard over a reasonable radio volume. Other than that the car has been awesome!
