I had just upgraded (outright) from a "dumb" interface to the Micro-CAN 2+ years ago for $149 (to use it on my A3) and now I have to pay another $159 to upgrade to HEX+CAN to use it on my Q5. Grrrr

that sucks... I'm surprised you just didn't get HEX+CAN when you upgraded a few years ago. It's been available at least since 2005 or so or even earlier, hasn't it been?

Probably. At the time, I was likely not loving the fact I had to update at all then. I had been using the Ross Tech dumb interface successfully on several family/friends cars, but when I needed it for the A3, that was the only car I needed it for. So of the new options, the MicroCAN was listed as the Enthusiast one and met my needs and had the lower price, so went with it. I think the HEX+CAN was termed "Professional" at the time. I actually kept my old Ross Tech dumb cable so I could still help out my coworkers/family that might need something with an older interface. I suspect keeping both was less than getting the HEX+CAN and it seemed that I was getting full functionality of both. Obviously, I'm trying to fill in gaps in my memory, so this could be off. Anyway, here I am now...

I guess at least now I'll get used to the car the way it was provided stock and appreciate even more any of the future changes I perform.... (half full? )
