What material is between the side windows?

I think it's plastic of some sort and not very hard. I too have "swirls" I use polish and sealant and they return shortly after wiping again?

I have been trying to find out where the dealer who has this Q5 got what look to be aluminum pieces to cover those areas. This pic came from another post.
I'm still up in the air on whether I like the way they look, but it sure would be nice to put those in to get rid of the swirl marks in the shiny black plastic.

But I believe the "aluminum pieces" are just the temporary protective covering from the factory that are removed when the dealer preps the car for delivery. You can see that the cars in the picture still have plastic covers on the seats as well.

Can't help with the OP's question...
