There are no engine sounds coming through the cabin speakers. The Soundaktor is a sperate piece if hardware that's bolted to the firewall on the passenger side. It's a sound driver that uses the firewall as a speaker. Open the small trap door just below the passenger side wiper and you should see it.

I just did the adaptation directly (so no credits). There is different levels that you can use. I think it started at 10, I dropped it to 3, and then to 0.

Thanks for your reply! I am very tempted to get the OBDeleven but afraid I might screw something up and then have to do the walk of shame at the dealer...

It's pretty "safe". When you connect to a module, you can email yourself the settings before and after just to be safe. Just make sure to document what you changed, so you can change it back if need be. I made up a spreadsheet with the setting, what it did, defaults before and what I set it to after.

Also, you can use "individual " mode and set sound to "comfort". Not sure how much that helps, but it's one of the settings.
