Default OBDII Question

I am completely new to the OBDII world but have been looking into buying one for my new 2018 Q5. I had to find an android phone first and recently was able to borrow one. I downloaded the app to see all the apps avaialable. Today in talking with a coworker I found that one had an ObDII device but it was different than the one I had seen linked on here. The device connects to my car with an app I downloaded on my iPhone but I was not able to get it to connect to the android app referenced all over this forum. This is the device he has https://kobraproducts.net/products/k...obd2-scan-tool. Does anyone have experience with this device? Am I only able to use the 1-click apps on the OBD Eleven app if I buy the device that is for sell at shopdap.com?

Never heard of that one (that doesn't necessary mean anything!). What is your goal here? OBDEleven allows you to change a bunch of behind the scenes coding as well as code clearing, that unit appears to only be a OBDII scan tool to show/clear error codes.

Thank you for the reply. I’d like to make some adjustments like seat temp, steering wheel temp and perhaps a few other changes. Definitely do not want to do any manual coding at this point. Do I need the pro version if all I want to do is 1 click-apps? I know credits are required.

I'd recommend OBDEleven, and get the pro version. Using it to code (not using the 1-click apps) is very easy, and straight forward. Usually it's just click on a module, click "adaptations" and then there will be a text string for "seat temperature" (for example), and then you change the value. In older versions, it was hex strings (not user friendly), but this version on the newer vehicles is a joke to use.

No, you don’t need the pro version if all you want to use are the 1 click apps, and you can always enable that functionality later (will cost a little more, than buying up front).

Sorry, I had misleading info. You don't need pro for 1-click apps, but I'd recommend pro since you can do a lot more, and it's really not that hard to do.

From my understanding, the ODB11 is just for VW's and Audi.

What Martigary said. They are all part of the VAG (Volkswagen Automobile Group). I was thinking you meant OBD2 (which covers every car, and I think the OP's original item would work for all) not OBD11.
