I have had issues too with both an iPhone 7plus and iPhone X. For both, carplay will only launch either after a long delay or after multiple connect/reconnects and about 1/2 the time carplay will launch and then go back to the MMI menu screen and when I select it, it will just essentially bounce back to the MMI. Annoyed.
