Fuel Consumption
I have a 2017 Q7 Technik (Prestige Plus in US). When driving in normal conditions, meaning the suspension is in dynamic mode, but the engine is in normal D mode, I get an average 8.8L/100km. When Gassing up the trip computer gives me an estimate of 1010km range. In S mode well its a different consumption profile altogether. The manual says that under S or Dynamic mode the all the engine power is made available. Does this imply that when the engine is in normal mode it is running on fewer cylinders? Or is the consumption profile entirely driven by software?

I believe the main reason for higher fuel consumption under dynamic mode is the gearing. When I use dynamic, the transmission is more aggressive in maintaining higher RPM. This helps acceleration but is usually negative for fuel economy.

Correct. The increased fuel consumption is all due to changing the shift points of the transmission. When in D, the transmission is usually 2-3 gears higher at cruising speed than it is when in S. When the car is first put in dynamic, the transmission is in S. However, if the car is left is dynamic, and then re-started, the transmission defaults to D.

Not entirely correct.. The Sport mode is one gear down from D only, not 2-3 - at least that's what my recollection is from reading the Manual.
