More than a month ago received invitation from my local dealer to install some major software updates released by Audi.
This update concerned fix of some bugs with cameras, including traffic sign recognition.
Some update to virtual cockpit.
But have to admit, never had any problems with cameras so far, even before update.

My cameras stopped working last night. My Q only has 250 or so miles on it and already spent a week and a half in the shop for the dreaded SOS Malfunction warning. I was afraid they'd messed something up with the cameras during the first repair, but this morning they worked just fine. I'm chalking it up to the fact that we used navigation last night to get back home and it was still running when I put the car in reverse to back into the driveway. I'll have to test that theory again at some point.

Just had this happen to me, working fine all of a sudden all cameras blank. Remembered this thread shut off the Q7 and after 15 mins the cameras were back. Can some tell how to perform the hard and soft MMI resets for future reference.
Thanks
Edit: I finally found how to restart the MMI in the manual on page 254, by briefly pushing the Control **** along with the Nav/Map, Radio buttons at the same time. I must of passed this info 5 times and somehow missed it.

Finally got my Q7 back yesterday...... Long story short, dealer cannot identify problem, need to wait for Audi regional tech to check, Audi regional tech authorize to replace J928 rearview camera module, camera module arrived and replaced. The whole process took over exactly a week......
Now... the camera view is back... But dealership tech broke my trunk light and put black smudge all over my rear left trim panel(where the camera module is)...... Need to arrange another trip to the dealership again......
*Sigh*

TSB #2048517/1
I figured I would add an update to this for those who have had this happen to them.
Since the middle of June I have had this happen a few times, took it to the dealer and they didn't find anything wrong.. Approx a month ago the cameras blacked out again, but this time my wife took a video of it. So I call my SC and she told me to email her the video. A week later she told me that she had sent it to Audi and Audi suggests that I bring it in so that the tech at the dealer and Audi tech support can trouble shoot the issue.
Took it in last week and left it a couple of days, it was determined that they needed to apply TSB #2048517/1 and perform an SVM Software update for overhead module J928. They also adjusted the overhead camera and calibrated the camera.. Only got the Q7 back on Friday, so only time will tell if this is the fix
Hopefully this will help someone else who has this problem..

camera blackout
I've had this happening on a almost daily basis this time last year. When I took her in for the first service last August, the master tech found fault codes logged for the issue with the cameras. Here is the crazy part... the part ordered and replaced was the passenger sun visor. Apparently the electrics to the sun visor is on the same wiring harness as the camera system and is shorting them all out at times. Have your dealer reference TSBs 2043850/1 & 2043850/2. ALSO: it was determined that they needed to apply TSB #2048517/1 and perform an SVM Software update for overhead module J928
