Trip Report
Just finished a 2,800 mile round trip out West and have to say I'm pretty impressed with the Q! Overall about 30 mpg average (premium fuel, altitude around 6,000-8,000 feet, mostly Comfort mode, loaded to the eyeballs with crew and luggage); several times showed a 630-mile plus range after a fillup. Lots of road construction, so we were routed multiple times to the other side of the Interstate in 2-lane traffic - the GPS actually recognized the difference of traveling Westbound in the Eastbound lane, and showed "offroad" in the Nav display and paused calculating distance to destination. The impressive thing was that the distance between different lanes of the Interstate was frequently no more than 50 feet, but the Nav recognized the difference. All systems worked flawlessly, and the Lane Keeping Assist proved to be worth the price in reducing fatigue on long stretches. Very impressed with Audi's ACC - a significant improvement over BMW's in my 2015 X5. AT&T had spotty connections some places, but so did our Sprint provider on our cells. Speed sign recognition could be better, but surprisingly good with the screwball placement and size/shape of signs following construction through WY and CO. Air suspension was a plus considering the shape of the Western Interstates, particularly I-84 and I-80, and handling was great with 4-wheel steering. MMI phone app is an improvement over BMW Connect, but gave a false reading a few times on oil level; always good when I checked the car, and as far as I know used no oil. Very comfortable cruising, and perceptibly less tiring than my previous BMW - 75-80 mph seems to be the sweet spot for mileage, surprisingly stable in curving switchbacks and high winds; think I'm gonna love the Q7 for long-hauling. No real offroading, so can't speak to its mountain-climbing ability, but the Q7 is a very impressive highway cruiser - glad I switched from the blue propeller.

Great write up and impressive mileage.. I was happy last summer when I averaged around 26 mpg on a 450 mile road trip until I hit bumper to bumper traffic, but 30 mpg is incredible for a Q7.

Nice write up. Is yours a 2.0 or a 3.0 engined Q7? 30 mpg IS phenomenal. We have had two TDI Q7s and bought the second one after the TDI fix was done. That TDI only gets about 27 mpg on a similar long road trip.

30 is insanely high. I did a road trip on Monday and here are my stats.
First 68 miles were fairly even speed, with high mph and I got 28 Mpg. This is the highest I have ever seen.
For the entire road trip, you can see the mpg drops quite a bit, but again notice the average mph over the trip is quite high
26 mpg is pretty damn good imo

26.3 was the best I've had on a long trip, and I dont drive slowly as evident by the 68 mph average. And this includes slowing down for stops, traffic etc which there weren't too many of, but still. Very happy with the fuel economy of the Q

3.0 Prestige; actually topped 31 mpg for one tank on a flatish stretch through WY, about 7,500 feet elevation average. Mostly 91 octane or better, and yes, I was surprised by the numbers (did go down to 28/29-ish below 2,000 feet, so I'm sure elevation improved it but shows what the car is capable of). My X5d only averaged around 34 mpg cruising at Interstate speed. I'm sure daily driving will trim this figure considerably, but still I'm pretty astonished that a big, gas fed SUV would reach these numbers. Almost all ACC and Interstate cruising, very little braking, 21 inch max inflation Pirellis. Only about 3,500 miles on it now, but again impressed with the performance for a gasser (or actually any powerplant).
