20v Oil pan Question

20v Oil pan Question
I've seen a page ( forgot the wesite, as it was posted somewhere in here or AF) about getting a 20v oil pan for a 10v with some sort of bolt on side sump ( stock? aftermarket? ) what are the best options for finding one, and what should one expect to pay? Also when installed is it safe to check/torque the lower crankshaft bearings? Really not sure as being a novice Audi owner, I've never had to witness the innards of my engine block...the pictures I see are bad enough, for 1983 this stuffs pretty well engineered and I have yet to discover the quality of repairs ( if any ) from the PO inside the motor....but thats part of the fun

Re: 20v Oil pan Question
The 20v Oil Pan is a great upgrade. I just put one in during my MC motor upgade. The side tank is indeed bolted on, but is stock. It holds an extra 1/2qt of oil. I paid about $100 for one from a guy that was parting a 20v Coupe Quattro. You want a pan off of a coupe, because it has the clearance dent for the radiator. It clears the subframe just fine. The advantage of this pan is that it has internal baffels to prevent oil from sloshing to much. You do need to use the 20v oil pan gasket for this pan. I also put a windage tray (from the 20v Turbo) during this mod. It is around $25 new and reduces crank slashing. You just need to get a second oil pan gasket if you do this.

Re: 20v Oil pan Question
My 7A oil sump had NO baffle in it what so ever. Others that have taken their sump off found that theirs also does not have the baffle. I'll have to order one from the dealer or something. It bolts right in, but I may go with the AAN baffle, not sure yet.
Also, the suction tube is different between the 7A/3B and MC. You must use the 20v's part, otherwise the inlet is positioned wrong IIRC.
I'll have to find the pics I took of the MC w/7A sump I am installing into the CQ.
