Default 99 A6 2.8L Q: Coolant Temp gauge: Engine is Cold, gauge reads all the way to the right @ H

Coolant Temp warning light goes off within a few seconds of start, coolant level is fine, fans are working, inspected the wiring to the ECT, seems fine.

Possible ECT failure or do I have a bigger problem like a stuck thermostat.

IIRC, I can check what the engine coolant temp is via the climate control diag.....?

Thanks

Default I would just replace the engine coolant temp sensor. If your gauge is at hot when you know the motor

is cold than that would not be caused by a thermostat. It could also be the gauge in your instrument cluster. You can look at coolant temp in engine electronics to see what two of the temp sensor pins are reading and then in instrument cluster mvb 3 or 4 to see what the other two pins of the sensor is reading. If they seem off or they aren't withing 2-3 degrees of each other then replace it with a new one with an o-ring.

Default I believe the coolant temp in the CC head uses the same sensor as the guage...

I had one go bad in the A8, common problem. Mine read low. It was a $15 part. I think if your t-stat was stuck it would take longer to overheat in this weather.

Default I had the temp sensor go bad on my 2.8 - there are two sensors on this engine

I also had a thermostat fail on my daughters 95 Audi 90.

You just had to take a pic of your rolex next to your t-stat?
