Default 2nd Broken Windshield

Just turned 4K miles and caught another stone that cracked the windshield. Just got done about 6 weeks ago putting a windshield in. WTF are these made of? Have to buy windshield from Audi, no aftermarket availability. Anyone else going through windshields every 2K miles? Do you think I have a case w/ Audi? I have had probably 20 different cars in last 10 years and have only replaced 2 windshields in all those vehicles. I think these windshields are defective???

Default You have no case if you are getting rock chips. It's just a case of bad luck.

And stop following cars so close.

Default Mine got broken at 2k. There are aftermarket windshields out there. I went with the company that

makes the RS4 windshield OEM and saved about $300 over buying one that actually says Audi. The only difference is my new windshield doesn't have the little rings on the bottom corner. And this one isn't distorted like the one my car came with.

Yeah, I guess my "luck" has changed since I bought an RS4. I also knew someone who knew nothing about how either of these happened would blame me. FYI, first one came off a dump truck traveling the OPPOSITE direction on a two lane road. Today's culprite was not traceable but I was not w/i 4 car lengths of anything around me on a 4 lane interstate! Furthermore, if you follow really close the rocks hit your bumper, not your windshield!

Default Yeah, I know. I went through 3 windshields on my old A4.

You really have to watch for the chips in the black area around the outside edge. They will spawn in to large cracks very fast that are unrepairable. And the chips are not noticeable from inside the car when they are in the black painted area.
