50k is the price in pounds sterling, which is extremely strong against the dollar currently.
so in the US, the M3 might actually be more expensive than the RS4, which was priced based on exchange rates over a year ago.

The price of a car in the US bears little resemblance to the Euro price...
Also, cars in the UK are generally more expensive than in the rest of Europe. This is partly due to being right-hand drive, and the rest is VAT amongst other things.
