RS4 (B7 Platform) Discussion Discussion forum for the B7 Audi RS4

Why should I go for an RS4 over a 335i? Seems like equal performance for $20K less... damn

Default if you said: why should i get an S4 over a 335i, you may have had a good point

though i suspect that the prices will be similar when the bimmer is optioned the same way. otherwise, audi will have to start discounting the s4.

the B7 is starting to seem a bit dated.

why you want your 335 when you can save $40000 and better performance?

Default There is more too it than just performance...

An Evo VIII is much closer in performance to an RS4 than the 335 but no one compares an Evo and an RS4. If you think that you are getting an RS4 at a $20K discount with a 335, then go ahead but in reality you still just have a 335.

Default You don't like being challenged do you?

But the fact is you made a ridiculous statement when you said "slightly better" after acknowledging a 10 second difference on the Ring.

I think the car is closer to a 997 than the 335 is to the RS4.

You can try to redirect the issue back to me and a weekend of posts I made over a month ago (an isolated incident) but it only illustrates you've run out of ideas.

I have nothing more to say, I think the facts about these cars stand for themselves at this point, now matter how many times you come around this forum soft peddling your backhanded "appreciation" for this car.

Default That argument can be made about most decent forced induction cars..

But it hardly has to do with the OP and any of the initial push back on this thread, which was addressing stock performance.

If you were to take the 335 out of warranty with mods to its forced induction, add suspension and equal brakes, how much of a bargain would you be looking at when you then consider its other inferior qualities?

I don't know, suit yourself, but don't expect flowers and candy when you compare these two cars as being "like equal performance". Pushback of this kind is natural and merited.

I swear it seems as if people expect everyone to just agree that the 335 is almost as good as the RS4. I think many people the world over would consider that view patently absurd.

Default Don't count on it. But that won't stop you from making ad hominum attacks

to redirect attention from the essence of what we're debating, right?

Default lol. Show me where I said anything remotely close to a 335 being an RS4 that's $20k less.

I don't know where you people come up with this stuff.

The Evo isn't even in the same class as the RS4. It's a fast Japanese econocar.

The 3 series and A4 series are both entry level German luxury sports sedans.

They are direct competitors and always have been.

"Average" quarter mile times are closer than that...more like 0.4 difference.

Default Here are your facts...

BMW 335i: 8:25 on the ring
Audi RS4 (street tires): ~8:17 on the ring
997 Carrera S: 8:05 on the ring (no times for 4S available yet)

Wow, real close to that Porsche...but hey, don't even think about comparing it to the BMW!

Like I said, Porsche owners should be offended that you would even think about comparing your overweight pig to their masterful piece of German engineering. ;-)

(no, I'm not looking to offend RS4 owners, but that's the tone that dbxben is using towards the BMW)
