Why should I go for an RS4 over a 335i? Seems like equal performance for $20K less... damn

Save it for your letter to R&T
Tell them how upset you are about their RS4 vs. C4S cover and their conclusions. You want to know what is cross shopped with the RS4? The M5. Talk to any Audi sales person on the side and they will tell you that many potential buyers balk at the lease prices because they resemble M5 lease prices and they then head for the BMW dealership... to buy an M5, not a 335.
As far as your ring times I've seen RS4 at 8:11 and 7:55 (unnoficial Stippler time). What tires were on the 335 for that run? Who did the run? We can start playing these variable games all day. We also know the M5 didn't clock that well around the 'Ring with stock tires either, I guess the RS4 is almost an M5. And that must mean a 335 is almost an M5. Wow. We can play this game forever.
The fact is though that in the end, no matter how you cut it, the 335 still finishes the ring as a small blip in the RS4's rear view mirror, 7 seconds (your worst case numbers) equates to many car lengths the last time I checked, and that is what this thread was originally about, supposed parity.
Lastly, I'll call you out again: You can keep trying to make this about me, but I'm not the only one disagreeing with you am I? A lot of people find the comparison ridiculous.
This is what you sound like: "Don't look at my ridiculous argument, pay attention to dxben, bla bla bla"..
Give that a rest already.

Actually, I think you are the only one...
Personally, I don't mind the C4S to RS4 comparison. Then again, I don't mind the 335i to RS4 comparison either.
Here you go bringing in opinions from Audi salesman comparing it to the M5 (which I agree with you on), but this has nothing to do with this discussion.
Nowhere in the original poster's thread did he ask what should be compared or what is direct competition to the RS4. Nowhere did I make a comment saying an RS4 buyer would be cross shopping a 335. Maybe you ought to stop and look at the previous posts before continuing.
My point is this, you act practically offended that someone would compare the RS4 to the 335 claiming it's leaps and bounds better...yet you will claim that the RS4 will run with Porsches all day long. When you consider that the RS4 is more like the 335 than the Porsche, it makes you laugh a little, doncha think? Everyone will agree that the RS4 will be a smaller spec in the Porsche's rear view mirror than the 335 in the RS4's rear view mirror.
All the times I posted were done by the same driver, H von Saurma who works for the German Magazine Sport Auto.
-The 335i ran 8:25 with RUNFLAT street tires.
-The RS4 ran 8:09 with R compound tires. Per Sport Auto's testing of the B5 RS4, the difference between good street tires and R compound tires amounts to 8 seconds per lap. This brings you to approx 8:17.
-The 997S was tested on street tires at 8:05.
-The M5 ran 8:13 with stock street tires, I don't know where you have your speculation on it not having stock tires.
That brings us to the end. No one said the cars were equal. The RS4 gives you more. More power, more performance, and a better car.
Is this "more" worth $20,000 over the cost/performance of a 335i? For some maybe...but I can promise you not for everyone.
Is that difficult for you to swallow?

List of ringtimes here. The 335i is from this month's issue and hasn't been scanned in. Cars with ** indicate R compound tires.

Hey, you started this bad blood exchange with dxben
So don't play innocent here. These are your exact words, with no provocation:
"You're funny. I think you should flip out again like you did at Audi that one time."
There was nothing funny about what Ben said in his follow on to Thumperer.

The whole thread is about that...
"Why should I go for an RS4 over a 335i? Seems like equal performance for $20K less... damn"
Tell me that doesn't imply that the cars are roughly equal in performance but the 335 is 20K less. It is not much of a stretch to saying that you think the cars are roughly equal. I just extended your example to show how ridiculous it is.
What the heck did you expect starting a thread like this on an Audi forum? The A4 and RS4 are very different. Compare the M3 all you like or a non M to a non RS but comparing high volume cars to Ms/AMGs/RS models is stupid. Just as stupid as comparing an EVO to them as I pointed out.
