Default Blue smoke from left exhaust on restart when cold

When I first start my car it is fine. If I pull it out of the garage and let it sit for about a half hour or so and then restart it I get a small puff of blue smoke from the left tailpipe. I don't get smoke on a restart when the car is hot from being run. I'm not seeing any noticeable oil consumption between oil changes except for about half a litre or so.

Is this normal, or am I looking at a potential problem? I've video taped this to show my Audi rep. The car is just coming out of warranty in about 1500 miles.

Default How long are you running it to pull it out of the garage?

VAG vehicles have disliked short-runs for a long time. Tends to foul the plugs and you'll get some ugly behavior on a restart (smoke, rough idle, CEL, etc.).

Default Puff = running rich given you're just starting it up, letting it sit, then firing up and gasoline is

burnt?

Our cars run rich when cold, so maybe that's the puff of blue you are seeing after the cold start, then shutoff with some gasoline in the system.

When I ran no cats for a weekend, I could smell the gasoline on WOT stints onto the fwy etc...and this was when fully warm (sensors thought my car was still "cold" so the car was actually running rich).

blue = oil, black = fuel, white = coolant

Default Re: How long are you running it to pull it out of the garage?

I've been running it for just a couple of minutes to pull it out of the garage. I didn't realize this, but that makes sense now that I think of it. The smoke is definitely blue so it does concern me because that's oil smoke, but it's just coming from the left exhaust. The car never does it on it's first cold start... clean as a whistle and never on a hot restart. Just the restart after a short cold start.
