A/C Compressor problem

I have a 2004 S4 with 90K miles. Up to now the car has been virtually flawless and well maintained. Now, the A/C blows only warm air and the compressor will not run. I replaced the pressure switch and then used VAG-COM to check for codes and found none. All of the other diagnostic checks on the A/C System come back within spec.
I know the air compressor is buried deep in the engine bay - is there a definitive way to know if the compressor is shot?

Patrick,
I'm having the same problem.
AC worked great and then stopped and hasn't worked since.
I took it to the dealer and they didn't find much,but here are the codes they found.

#P1635 "data bus powertrain missing message from air conditioning control sporatic"
#01320 "climate control module J255, no communication, sporatic"

dealer did evacuation and recharge ..refrig level good, no leaks.

Someone from the quattroworld forums said they thought it might be the control head unit.?.
Let me know if you find out anything more, and i'll do the same for you.

seems to me you need to take it to another dealer.
when they recharge the system what was the high and low pressure at?

Refrig level was slightly low and leak test came back with good results, no leaks (.47kg measured, .51kg is spec...but i had it tested at an A/C shop the day before and they said it was really low so they refilled, but also said it passed the leak test)

The dealer wants me to bring it back so they can start going through wiring diagrams and hvac settings.

I a bit worried about the time that would take and the resulting charge!
