Easiest way to pull motor? Subframe drop or Hoist out engine? Auto Trans...
Im just looking for some basic advice from those who have pulled this motor before. What is the general consensus on getting this powerplant out of the car? The engine needs to be rebuilt. This is for an automatic B6 S4. I was wondering if its easier to drop the subframe, or if it makes more sense to try and fully disconnect the automatic transmission bell housing and flexplate, then hoist out the motor by itself. Thanks for any advice or tips in advance!

Well, I'm not completely sure about the auto trans cars. But I'm working changing my engine right now in a 6-speed car. I'm just about to drop the subframe because that's what the manual calls for. But I beleive the auto cars can be pulled out the front.
It looks like a big pain in the ars to pull the front bumper and what Audi calles the lock support that holds the head lights a/c conden and radiator.
But it really is pretty easy.
I managed to find a used engine with 45K miles. but if you go that route...make sure you have the right engine. The auto and 6-speed cars have different crankshafts.
What happened to your engine?
