Photos & comments from test drive today (Nogaro sedan)
I had the chance to take my car out for a drive today. Traffic was very heavy, plus I'm serious about babying it until it's broken in, so no comments on serious performance yet...
Firstly, the biggest thing that struck me was the suspension. I'm currently driving a TT, and the very firm suspension coupled with it's short wheelbase makes it a very rough ride on many Boston roads. While the S4's suspension was firm, it absorbed the bumps and potholes wonderfully. So, no concerns from me about an 'overly stiff' suspension setup.
As someone else said, the transmission is a joy. Snick, snick. All the tourqe makes driving it in stop & go traffic pretty nice. Doesn't matter what gear you're in, just gas-n-go :-)
The seats are quite amazing. That's one of the other things I don't really care for in my TT (not much adjustability and no lumbar support).
Oh, and the V8 sounds like music.
Speaking of music, I spent part of the drive with a CD playing, and I'd say at first listen, the non-bose system in the S4 sounds better than the Bose in my TT.
The NAV system is great...I had it route me from the dealer to my house w/o using highways. It picked a decent route and was accurate and easy to understand. The new color screen is very bright and a huge improvement over the 2-color screen of previous years.
Oh, and to answer another frequent question: yes, there is a full-sized spare.
Hopefully Monday afternoon I'll be picking up the S4 for good!

Congratulations, your S4 looks great. Thanks for sharing your observations. I like the color you picked. I seem to always settle for the boring silver. My two rides now are an '02 M3 and a '02 TT roadster. Both great cars in their own way. Looking forward to your performance report after your break-in is completed. I'm afraid to even visit my Audi dealer now because I know they just took delivery of an S4 yesterday.
