And be traveling around 50 or higher mph. I do not shift into it. I slide gear shift to right at that speed and display shows M7 .I have also tried to shift to 7th but may have not been going fast enough.it may be that you can not shift to that gear, but transmission does it when you have reached certain speed and are no longer aggressively accelerating. The s tronic has two sets of gear side by side 1-6 , 7th may not be in that configuration, and my come on only at certain speeds w/o acceleration. Next time I am on the highway I will check I doubt there is anything wrong, the car just does it own thing. Sport mode locks out 7th gear. Like if you put the car in sport (pull the lever down to S) then use paddles (which will switch the car to manual mode) you can't get into 7th without pulling the lever twice to put the car back into regular "D" mode and you can then grab 7th. The twice part is annoying, pull one puts it back from manual to sport mode, second pull gets you back to D and allows 7th.

Guessing that throwing it into the manual gate also allows 7th. Will play with that on the way home today. Also you need to be going 45-50 mph or higher for 7th to even become available.

Default driving my 2015 in Comfort mode

car warming up, temp gauge 1/2 way between cold and mid mark (engine warmed up) slid gear shift to right at about 50 mph, display for tranny went from "D" to "m7", was able to down shift to "M6" using paddles and up shift to
"M7" using paddles. I think previous poster is correct you can only get M7 ,7th gear if in "D" comfort mode. I did not realize you can shift into sport mode from comfort pulling down on shifter. . I mostly drive in Comfort mode anyway unless I want o show off cars amazing acceleration. It is even plenty fast in comfort mode.see if your car works that way. I now just realize you an shift from d to s by pulling back the gear shift lever, and you can switch back by pulling back again.

Is the S4 DCT different from the RS5?

I drive in sport mode in the RS5 and shift up to 7 all the time.

Have a 6 speed manual in the S4 so it's not an issue.

7th is a fuel economy gear so it makes sense not to really use it. You can still probably go 155+ MPH in 6th. On my PDK, it doesn't use 7th in sport+manual mode either.
