2002 DELIVERY OF S4's DELAYED TO SEPT 2001
I ordered my S4 in April 2001, whole heartedly expecting a 2001. Audi Germany made my car as a 2002 and shipped it to California at the end of June. With the upcoming body style change of the new A4 for 2002, I was just informed by my dealer, that delivery for July, susequently pushed to August has now been delayed to September. The answer the dealer gave me was that Audi North America hasn't price pointed the 2002's. Even though I was expecting a 2001. Why should I be penalized?!
Does anyone else out there know of what's going on? Why are Audi Germany and Audi North America so divided on releasing their model years? I could have done what BMW did years ago and go to Germany and deliver my own car back!!! I know the dealer's hands are kind of tied with the Federal Gov't in terms of price point release dates on the 2002...meaning I don't get to tear around town in my '02 S4!!!
Does anyone out there know of what is going on with the 2002? Release dates? etc.
ARGH! Signed FRUSTRATED AS HELL IN LOS ANGELES

lemme guess...Rusnak?
look a couple of pages back...some people seem to have gotten AoA to release cars that were ordered a while ago.
Supposedly it was they didn't want ANY 2002s sitting on the lots because they'd have to discount the 2001s...well since you are simply picking up the car you already ordered this should NOT apply to you.

This is all dealers...not just Rusnak
And this was posted by me and others several times before. Yes, they are going to be held....I had heard only the ones that were not ordered would be held...it may be all of them that are being held. It could be pricing...but probably not.
My emails to insiders have, so far, not been responded to. I will let you know if I hear of any new developments.

Re: This is all dealers...not just Rusnak
I just finished reading 4 pages back that if the car was ordered "and marked as sold on the inventory tracking reports would be released" (posted by Ted K on 2001-07-23 11:43:13) Is this true?!

was it Rusnak? The reason I ask is...
they are unlikely to do ANYTHING to help you at any time. I'm on record as being an anti-Rusnak guy and I filed a complaint against them with the BBB due to willful denial of warranty work. I ended up lemoning the car largely due to the delays and treatment they started the process with (eventually went to a different dealer).

yeah, I'm in the exact same boat. Wanted a '01, ordered in April, turned out to be '02, sitting in
port of Boston right now. Click on my "S4 Website" link below and then "The Wait" to read all about the process I'm going through, including links to some of the posts you mentioned and fax's of my car's status.

As I indicated earlier, two weeks ago, AOA got MASS complaints about this policy, and told me, and..
and my dealer, that cars marked as sold on the inventory status report would be released. They also told that to many other 2002 S4 owners on the AW board. Now, unless it is a mass conspiracy/lie, where they are telling 40 or 50 customers, and their dealers, a load of ****, they will be released shortly. I am planning on calling my dealer again tomorrow. Someone else also posted yesterday that their dealer told them the end of this week. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see.

2 wks ago "sold cars will be released", last wk after letter to AoA mgt "no 02s till sept period".
I, too, was told two weeks ago by customer relations that sold cars would be released.
However last week after I sent a letter to AoA management I was told, both by customer relations woman and by dealer's sales manager and dealership owner who were getting flak from their rep because I was pissed off, absolutely no car 'till 02 launch Sept 1.
AoA seems to waffle on this every few days. I hope the cars are released soon, as I am driving a 72 Datsun with a dead battery right now. But their steadfast refusal after management was made aware of the situation doesn't bode well. So much for my mom's pleading to buy a reliable car I don't have to worry about. Maybe I should have her call AoA.
