Does a higher stage clutch mean it wont last as long?

my spec stg 2 certainly has taken a beating and has shown ZERO signs of wear
although I've only had it in for about 5K miles. I has taken a lot of abuse during that time (s4 challenge, 1/4 runs, 5k launches, 4 wheel burnouts, multiple track events, etc.)

Usually the answer is yes. When you use a more aggressive friction material it will wear the
flywheel and pressure plate more quickly. The S4 pressure plate has a really neato self adjusting feature that keeps the engagement point at similar pedal levels over it lifetime vs. how much material is worn off.
So until someone takes one off after a given amount of time and checks wear...
If you are really concerned about longevity and do NOT abuse the clutch use oem or RS4. A good sacrifice (IMHO) is the SPEC 2. For the Big-Boys or the psycho drag racers maybe a SPEC 3. Although mileage will likely suffer, the big power and hard launches will not as likely kill it.

yep, Jeff is right. I had the OEM RS4 for 1.5 years and it held up great
never once did it ever slip. It held up great and the only reason I changed it out was so that I could try out the Spec Stg 2 and I didn't want to take any risks having the rs4 fail at the S4 challenge.

Depends on why you want it. If current clutch is slipping under high torque shifts,
or perhaps just slow to engage hard again under hard shifts, then a grabbier one might last longer.
Otherwise, I'd say the life would be almost the same, to somewhat shorter, depending on your style.
Not saying one driving style is better than another, just that some styles are harder on the car in general, but LOTS more fun!
I alternate between "old grandma", and (per my family) "totally insane"! ;=)
